Celebrate history and culture during National Aboriginal Day

On Thursday, June 19, Alberta is helping kick off National Aboriginal Day with a noon hour celebration at Edmonton City Centre hosted by Aboriginal Relations Minister Frank Oberle. The event features performances from members of Alberta’s Aboriginal community.

“I encourage Albertans to join in the celebrations and explore Alberta through the eyes of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit people. Strong, resilient Aboriginal communities are essential to the continued success, prosperity and competiveness of Alberta.”

Frank Oberle, Minister of Aboriginal Relations

In 1996, the Government of Canada declared June 21 of every year to be National Aboriginal Day in honour of the contributions of First Nations, Metis and Inuit people. On that day, the unique cultures, languages and histories of Aboriginal communities shine in every part of the country.
