Sorrentino's Compassion House expanded guest suite

Sorrentino's Compassion House expanded guest suite

The Government of Alberta has provided a $750,000 Community Facility Enhancement Program grant to assist with the $5 million project that increased capacity from six suites to 14, providing 14 women and their companions with affordable accommodation during treatment and the early stages of recovery.

“An investment in Sorrentino’s Compassion House is an investment in building stronger Alberta families and communities.  This facility provides breast cancer patients with the comfort and support that is so important to their mental and physical well-being during treatment and recovery.”

Heather Klimchuk, Minister of Culture

“Sorrentino’s Compassion House is a haven for women battling breast cancer. The generous funding from the Government of Alberta, alongside the support of the community and corporate partners, means that more women and their companions will have access to affordable, compassionate accommodation when they travel to Edmonton for breast cancer treatment.”

Janet Riopel, Board President, Compassion House Foundation

The expansion project also includes renovations to the kitchen and common areas and the installation of an elevator.

Since 2002, Sorrentino’s Compassion House has provided low-cost accommodation for hundreds of women from 185 communities across Alberta, British Columbia, the Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan and Yukon. Guests can access transportation service to the Cross Cancer Institute and find support from fellow breast cancer patients, staff and volunteers.

Under the Building Alberta Plan, our government is investing in families and communities, living within our means, and opening new markets for Alberta's resources to ensure we're able to fund the services Albertans told us matter most to them. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
