This release was issued under a previous government.

Alberta Education informed the school’s board of directors of the decision on May 20 following an independent, third-party inquiry into the school’s governance and finances.

“We will not allow this school to continue operating without the appropriate checks and balances in place. Situations such as these will not be tolerated by our government. To ensure minimal disruption to students and families, the school will be allowed to operate for the remainder of this school year with Alberta Education supervising all financial transactions.”

Jeff Johnson, Minister of Education

Alberta Education staff will work with families to ensure students are registered with other school authorities for next year.

The International School of Excellence began operations in the 2003-04 school year and has 170 registered students from kindergarten to grade 12.

Alberta Education appointed KPMG to conduct an inquiry into the governance and finances of the International School of Excellence on November 13, 2013, because of complaints about the school from various interested parties.

Under the Building Alberta Plan, our government is investing in families and communities, living within our means, and opening new markets for Alberta's resources to ensure we're able to fund the services Albertans told us matter most to them. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
