The Residential Access Modification Program (RAMP) grant helps lower-income Albertans retain their independence and live in their community by offering financial support to make home modifications that improve accessibility.

The grant is increasing from $5,000 to $7,500 and can be used for changes such as the addition of ramps or lifts, door widening, flooring changes, and bathtub door inserts.

In addition, applicants can now qualify for multiple RAMP grants totalling up to $15,000 in a 10-year benefit period.

“The RAMP grant supports wheelchair users of any age to live with dignity and independence in their homes. It gives lower-income Albertans opportunity for greater well-being and fulfillment regardless of whether they are homeowners or home renters.”

Naresh Bhardwaj, Associate Minister of Services for Persons with Disabilities

Budget 2014 includes $2.97 million for the RAMP grant.

“Thanks to RAMP, I’ve gained greater freedom and independence. It funded a wheelchair ramp that lets me get out more easily to work and volunteer and stay connected in my community.”

Patricia Whaley, RAMP grant recipient

“The RAMP grant complements the programs that Easter Seals Alberta offers people with disabilities by creating opportunities for us to work together with the province to assist more Albertans to move in and around their homes with ease and comfort.”

Jodi Zabludowski, Director, Operations, Easter Seals Alberta

Under the Building Alberta Plan, our government is investing in families and communities, living within our means, and opening new markets for Alberta's resources to ensure we're able to fund the services Albertans told us matter most to them. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
