A new memorandum of understanding (MOU) ensures Victim Service Units continue to operate with the support of the RCMP. The signing continues the good work that has been carried out since the first MOU was signed with the RCMP in 2007.

“Alberta’s agreement with the RCMP helps ensure victims of crime will continue to receive information, referrals and support when they need it the most.”

Jonathan Denis, Minister of Justice and Solicitor General

“Victim service programs are a great example of the enormous positive impact that happens when government, police agencies and local communities come together to pursue the common goal of supporting victims of crime in Alberta. The critical support that victim service programs provide is directly tied to the overall effectiveness of the police and justice systems response to victims of crime - and the RCMP is deeply grateful for this support."

Marianne Ryan, Commanding Office of the Alberta RCMP

The agreement also reaffirms the commitment to treat all victims of crime with courtesy, compassion and respect.

Staff and volunteers with Victim Service Units are trained, caring people who offer information, assistance and support to victims of crime during the police investigation and throughout the criminal justice process.

Under the Building Alberta Plan, our government is investing in families and communities, living within our means, and opening new markets for Alberta's resources to ensure we're able to fund the services Albertans told us matter most to them. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
