“Alberta has made great strides in taking action to address family violence, bullying and sexual violence - moving these often hidden social issues from a private to a public concern. Additional investment in Budget 2014 will help us increase focus on services that inspire real and lasting social change, now and in the future.”

Manmeet S. Bhullar, Minister of Human Services

Sandra Jansen, Associate Minister of Family and Community Safety, will highlight the Government of Alberta’s commitment to healthy and safe communities at the Centre to End All Sexual Exploitation (CEASE) Men of Honour Awards tonight in Edmonton.

Sandra Jansen, Associate Minister of Family and Community Safety

Minister's Forum on Child Sexual Abuse

May is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, with a particular focus on child sexual abuse.

In support of the Minister’s five-point plan to make improvements to the child intervention system, the Government of Alberta will host the first provincial forum on child sexual abuse to bring focus to an issue that profoundly affects the safety and well-being of children.

The forum will take place on May 8 in Calgary.

“The sexual abuse of children has devastating consequences. With this new budget commitment, we are working closer than ever before with government as our partner to stop abuse and help victims heal.”

Danielle Aubry, Executive Director, Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse

The Alberta government ministry of Human Services is investing $4.1 billion in 2014-15, an increase of $213 million, to keep children healthy and safe, build stronger families and communities, and deliver better services for vulnerable Albertans.

Under the Building Alberta Plan, our government is investing in families and communities, living within our means, and opening new markets for Alberta's resources to ensure we're able to fund the services Albertans told us matter most to them. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
