Minister Denis announces funding for victim services in High River

L-R: Minister Weadick, Minister Klimchuk, Southern Alberta District Chief Superindendent Officer Kevin Harrison, Minister Denis, Associate Minister Fraser and Associate Minister Fawcett

“The staff and volunteers of Foothills Regional Victim Services have played an important role in assisting victims of crime in the region. This additional support for the organization will help them address the increased requests for service since the floods of last June. Victims need to be heard and the Government of Alberta continues to answer their call for help.”

Jonathan Denis, Minister of Alberta Justice and Solicitor General

The province is providing Foothills Regional Victim Services with a grant of $115,000.

“The funding from the Alberta government will assist us in enhancing the support and services Foothills Victim Services provides. This will assist us in meeting the increase in requests for our services throughout the area.”

Kerri Wilkinson, Program Coordinator, Foothills Regional Victim Services

Foothills Regional Victim Services is also receiving more than $350,000 as part of a three-year grant through the Victims of Crime Fund. The additional $115,000 is a two-year grant that will help the unit expand resources and respond to the growing needs of the area.

The organization helps victims requiring immediate crisis intervention, emotional support and practical assistance. Advocates accompany victims to court, provide information on bail hearings and help them fill out victim impact statements.

The Government of Alberta is proud to support residents of High River, Nanton, Turner Valley and Okotoks through programs and services offered by Foothills Regional Victim Services.

Under the Building Alberta Plan, our government is investing in families and communities, living within our means, and opening new markets for Alberta's resources to ensure we're able to fund the services Albertans told us matter most to them. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
