This release was issued under a previous government.

Minister of Municipal Affairs Ken Hughes set the initial goal at the beginning of 2014 when he assured Albertans that 90 per cent of all eligible residential applications resulting from the 2013 Southern Alberta Floods DRP would be completed by March 31.

To ensure the goal set by the minister would be met, a number of new initiatives were established to increase the DRP’s capacity to resolve files in a timely manner.

One of those new initiatives was establishing an Insurance Advisory Group to support the DRP in resolving residential claims with complex insurance issues.

The Government of Alberta recognizes that the challenges faced were far greater than initially expected and would like to thank those involved in the DRP process to ensure the initial goal was met.

The 2013 flooding that affected southern Alberta was one of the most devastating natural disasters in the history of the province. It displaced tens of thousands of people and impacted over 10,000 homes.

Minister Hughes set a second goal to see 90 per cent of all other outstanding claims from the 2013 Southern Alberta Floods DRP (agricultural and business) completed by June 30.

To help ensure this second goal is met, a specialized team has been established to identify priority small business claims and work them through to completion.

All DRP applicants have access to an independent Appeals Branch and can appeal decisions by filing an Application for Review with the Managing Director of the Alberta Emergency Management Agency.
