This release was issued under a previous government.

From March 28-29, education ministers from across the globe will share ideas, insights, and best practices at the fourth International Summit on the Teaching Profession.

Roundtable discussions and presentations will focus on topics such as professional development, attracting and retaining high quality teachers and school leaders, and inclusive education.

Prior to attending the summit and immediately following, Minister Johnson will also visit Australia and Singapore to meet with officials and explore innovative educational practices in areas ranging from Aboriginal education to teacher training.

“Teachers are at the heart of Inspiring Education and are the single most important contributor to students’ success, after parents. I look forward to attending this summit with members of the Canadian Teachers’ Federation, including the President of the Alberta Teachers’ Association.”

- Jeff Johnson, Minister of Education

As Chair of the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada, Minister Johnson will lead the Canadian delegation to the summit. Provincial and territorial education ministers are expected to host the 2015 international summit in Banff.

Most travel and related costs for Minister Johnson will be covered directly by CMEC and summit organizers. The total estimated cost for additional expenses and one staff accompanying Minister Johnson, including airfare, transportation and accommodation, is $7,500.

Under the Building Alberta Plan, our government is investing in families and communities, living within our means, and opening new markets for Alberta's resources to ensure we're able to fund the services Albertans told us matter most to them. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
