Alberta will provide up to $100,000 in matching funding to facilitate the provision of humanitarian aid to Ukraine through Alberta Culture’s International Development Program.

“Along with all Albertans and Alberta’s Ukrainian community, our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine at this time of unthinkable conflict and uncertainty. We can all relate to the basic need to feel safe in our homes, in our cities and in our country – to live in communities that uphold and support the rights to freedom, democracy and the rule of law that those before us fought and sacrificed their lives for. We stand beside the people of Ukraine.”

- Alison Redford, Premier of Alberta

“In times of trouble it’s important to be able to reach out and help those in need. Our goal is to direct these funds where it is needed most to support those who are affected by the continuing violence in Ukraine.”

- Heather Klimchuk, Minister of Culture

“Alberta stands behind the Government of Canada’s condemnation of military intervention in Ukraine.  As Chair, I will continue to lead the Advisory Council’s efforts to provide our recommendations for next steps while representing the interests of Alberta’s Ukrainian community.”

- Genia Leskiw, MLA for Bonnyville-Cold Lake and Chair of the Advisory Council on Alberta-Ukraine Relations

The Government of Alberta has been working collaboratively with the federal government to stay up to date on the situation in Ukraine and will continue to monitor the situation closely.

Alberta is home to a strong and vibrant Ukrainian Community of more than a quarter million Albertans of Ukrainian descent. In recognition of the importance of the friendship between Alberta and Ukraine, the Government of Alberta established an Advisory Council on Alberta-Ukraine Relations in 2000.

Under the Building Alberta Plan, our government is investing in families and communities, living within our means, and opening new markets for Alberta's resources to ensure we're able to fund the services Albertans told us matter most to them. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
