“One of the cornerstones of our Building Alberta Plan is education and preparing our kids for their future. Last spring, I committed to building 50 schools and modernizing 70 others and that is exactly what we have done. Today we mark a milestone and I’m excited that Grande Prairie families are going to benefit from the 50th new Alberta school.”

- Alison Redford, Premier

The new Kindergarten to Grade 9 school will help address enrolment pressures in the growing Royal Oaks community. The new school will allow as many as 700 Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools students to attend classes closer to where they live.

“Our priority is to continue to provide flexible, well-designed learning facilities in communities where Alberta families live. In just a few short years, Grande Prairie will be home to a new, state-of-the-art school, designed to meet and adapt to changing educational and community needs.”

- Everett McDonald, MLA for Grande Prairie-Smoky

With bright, open spaces and through the use of natural light and advanced ventilation systems that enhance air quality and circulation, this new school will benefit students and teachers by providing healthy learning and working environments. In addition to conventional classrooms, this new facility will also include space for project-based, collaborative learning.

“Grande Prairie is seeing the results of government’s commitment to Alberta families and communities.  It won’t be long before students and families in our fast growing communities will have access to not one but three new schools as part of Premier Redford’s promise to build 50 new Alberta schools.”

- Wayne Drysdale, Minister of Transportation and MLA for Grande Prairie-Wapiti

With 50 new school projects and 70 modernization projects now underway, Premier Redford is delivering on her Building Alberta Plan and committment to invest in school infrastructure. These 50 new schools will create about 38,000 new spaces for Alberta students throughout the province.

Information about the school projects currently underway and additional details on the Grande Prairie project can be found online as they become available.

Under the Building Alberta Plan, our government is investing in families and communities, living within our means, and opening new markets for Alberta's resources to ensure we're able to fund the services Albertans told us matter most to them. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
