High school students studying

“One of the cornerstones of our Building Alberta Plan is education and preparing our kids for their future. Last spring, I committed to building 50 schools and modernizing 70 others and that is exactly what we are doing. I’m excited that Red Deer families are going to benefit from this investment.”

- Alison Redford, Premier

The new Kindergarten to Grade 5 public school and the new Grades 10 to 12 Catholic school will help address enrolment pressures in Red Deer’s growing north communities.  The new schools will allow as many as 600 Red Deer Public School District elementary students and as many as 1,200 Red Deer Catholic Regional Division high school students to attend classes closer to where they live.

“Our priority is to continue to provide flexible, well-designed learning facilities in communities where Alberta families live. In just a few short years, Red Deer will be home to two new, state-of-the-art schools, designed to meet and adapt to changing educational and community needs.”

- Mary Anne Jablonski, MLA for Red Deer-North

With bright, open spaces and through the use of natural light and advanced ventilation systems that enhance air quality and circulation, these new schools will benefit students and teachers by providing healthy learning and working environments.

In addition to conventional classrooms, the new facilities will also include space for project-based, collaborative learning.

“We are delivering on our commitment to central Alberta school children, their parents, and our communities, by announcing this much needed infrastructure for Red Deer. Students in our community will have access to the bright modern facilities they need to do their best work and fulfill their potential.”

- Cal Dallas, Minister of International and Intergovernmental Relations and MLA for Red Deer-South

Premier Redford committed to build 50 new schools and modernize 70 others. All 70 modernization projects are now underway. With this announcement, 48 new school projects are underway and the remaining two new schools will be announced this month.

Information about the school projects currently underway and additional details on the Red Deer projects can be found online as they become available.
