Junior high students working on a science experiment

“One of the cornerstones of our Building Alberta Plan is education and preparing our kids for their future. Last spring, I committed to building 50 schools and modernizing 70 others and that is exactly what we are doing. I’m excited that Sylvan Lake families are going to benefit from this investment.”

- Alison Redford, Premier

The new K-8 school will help address enrolment pressures in the growing community and benefit as many as 500 Chinook’s Edge School Division students.

“Our commitment to build state-of-the-art schools in communities across Alberta is critical to achieving the goals of Inspiring Education. We are putting students first by making smart and strategic investments in their education. These new schools will help ensure that every student can reach their full potential.”

- Jeff Johnson, Minister of Education

With bright, open spaces and through the use of natural light and advanced ventilation systems that enhance air quality and circulation, this new school will benefit students and teachers by providing healthy learning and working environments.

In addition to conventional classrooms, spaces for informal, project-based and collaborative learning are also components of the new facility.

Premier Redford committed to build 50 new schools and modernize 70 others. All 70 modernization projects are now underway. With this announcement, 44 new school projects are underway and the remaining six new schools will be announced this month.

Information about the school projects currently underway and additional details on the Sylvan Lake project can be found online as they become available.
