This release was issued under a previous government.

The modernization project at Foothills Composite High School will include upgrades to mechanical systems to regulate air and improve air quality. Electrical systems, along with shop spaces, will be modernized to meet current standards. The school’s interior will also be upgraded to better deliver the school’s specialized fine arts and career and technology programming.

In addition to this modernization project and to further address school infrastructure needs, more than 130 modular classrooms will also be allocated to communities across the province, including eight for Okotoks.

“With our recent investments in school modernization projects, combined with the new schools we unveiled last year, our commitment to Alberta families is clear. We are making sure that students and communities, today and long into the future, have the world-class school facilities they need to learn and be successful.”

- Alison Redford, Premier

“Under our Building Alberta Plan, we are working hard to make our education system more student-centred and responsive to the needs of kids and their communities. Modern facilities are essential to achieving the goals of Inspiring Education and will help ensure that Alberta’s students receive a world-class education.”

- Jeff Johnson, Minister of Education

“Targeted upgrades and modernizations for existing schools, in addition to building new schools to accommodate growth, are important components of our plan to make sure students and communities have the access they need to achieve.”

- Ric McIver, Minister of Infrastructure

Information about other school projects currently underway and additional details on the Foothills Composite High School project can be found online as they become available.

More than 130 modular classrooms will be made available for the 2014-15 school year. Providing modular classrooms is a part of the province’s annual capital planning process to help address school infrastructure needs in communities across Alberta.  A list of school jurisdictions receiving modular classrooms is available online.

Under the Building Alberta Plan, our government is investing in families and communities, living within our means, and opening new markets for Alberta's resources to ensure we're able to fund the services Albertans told us matter most to them. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
