Singapore is a significant entry point for Alberta’s exports into the Southeast Asia and Oceania markets including Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Australia. The office will increase Alberta’s on-the-ground knowledge, strengthen existing relationships and establish new ties to this critical economic hub.

“Opening new markets is a key part of our Building Alberta Plan, so it’s important we have boots on the ground in this dynamic and economically vibrant region. This new office will expand trade and investment opportunities between Alberta and Singapore in multiple sectors, including energy, agri-food, finance, research and development and life sciences.”

- Cal Dallas, Minister of International and Intergovernmental Relations

Job one for the Redford government is opening new markets around the world to ensure Albertans get the fairest price possible for the resources we own and that Alberta remains Canada’s economic engine.

The Southeast Asia and Oceania region’s combined population is 600 million people and includes several of the world’s most successful economies. Taken as a single market, it is the third largest economy in Asia after China and Japan.

Rob Simmons has been hired through a competitive process as Alberta’s new Managing Director, Alberta Singapore Office, Southeast Asia and Oceania. He was most recently the Chief Representative for Asia at Export Development Canada, where he promoted strategic market opportunities for western Canadian exporters and investors, as well as market entry and risk management advice.

Under the Building Alberta Plan, our government is investing in families and communities, living within our means, and opening new markets for Alberta's resources to ensure we're able to fund the services Albertans told us matter most to them. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
