This release was issued under a previous government.

These school projects are two of six new Alberta schools being announced this December. Together, the new schools will provide 4,200 new student spaces.

“These schools advance our promise to invest in Alberta’s families and communities and are part of our Building Alberta Plan. We’re committed to building 50 new schools and modernizing 70 more to ensure that students and communities have the world-class facilities they need to learn.”

- Alison Redford, Premier

The new schools will help address enrolment pressures in these growing communities:

  • Calgary’s new school will be built in Aspen Woods, benefitting as many as 750 Kindergarten to Grade 6 Roman Catholic Separate School District students; and
  • Edmonton’s new school will be built in Windermere, benefitting as many as 750 Kindergarten to Grade 9 Catholic Separate School District students.

“These schools will serve as the hubs of their community for many years and provide students exceptional learning opportunities. Not only are we building centres for excellence in teaching and learning, we’re strengthening growing communities and community spirit.”

- Jeff Johnson, Minister of Education

“Our priority is to continue to provide flexible, well-designed learning facilities in communities where Alberta families live. Students deserve to attend class in their own neighbourhood, in schools tailored to meet their educational programming needs.”

- Wayne Drysdale, Minister of Transportation, acting for Ric McIver Minister of Infrastructure

Information about other school projects currently underway and additional details on the Calgary and Edmonton projects, as they become available, can be found online.

Under the Building Alberta Plan, our government is investing in families and communities, living within our means, and opening new markets for Alberta's resources to ensure we're able to fund the services Albertans told us matter most to them. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
