This release was issued under a previous government.

The Fort McMurray company was sentenced to a $35,000 fine, the majority of which will be given to the Crime Stoppers Association of Edmonton and Northern Alberta.

Creative sentencing provides the court with a range of options in addition to fines or imprisonment that address the harm caused by an offence and the prevention of future offences.

  • Crime Stoppers provides Albertans with an additional venue to report environmental offences.
  • The creative sentence will benefit both the public and the environment.
  • Unreported environmental offences can damage air, land and water resources belonging to all Albertans. They also have the potential to affect the health of Albertans.
  • The public can also report environmental offences through the Energy and Environmental Emergency Hotline: 1-800-222-6514.
