“We welcome the announcement of an Agreement in Principle on key issues in the Canada-EU CETA negotiations. This is a great step forward. Alberta has supported an ambitious EU trade deal since day one because we know improved access for Alberta products to the European Union will benefit our economy. It is one more real, measurable way our government is opening markets as part of our Building Alberta Plan.

A completed CETA deal will be of particular significance to Alberta because it will provide new opportunities for our beef and pork producers in markets that were previously closed or severely restricted. Access to the entire EU, with a population of 506 million, for Alberta’s priority exports, including agricultural and agri-food products, will benefit all Albertans.

We expect Alberta firms across a number of sectors will benefit from a final agreement and Alberta is actively participating in the remaining negotiations to ensure our key interests continue to be addressed.”
