This release was issued under a previous government.

The Affordable Supportive Living Initiative (ASLI) grant from the Government of Alberta will provide $3.8 million towards the project.

“The Alberta government is committed to providing safe, quality care for seniors in our communities. These new spaces will allow more seniors to get the care and supports they need close to home, with their friends and families nearby.”

- George VanderBurg, Associate Minister of Seniors

The new spaces are expected to open by 2016, with Mountain View Seniors’ Housing paying the balance of the estimated $8 million construction costs.

“Mountain View Seniors’ Housing is dedicated to providing quality care and supports for seniors in our community. This grant from the Alberta government will allow us to build high quality care spaces that seniors can be proud to call home.”

- Sheldon Ball, Chairman, Mountain View Seniors’ Housing

This latest grant brings the total ASLI funding this year to almost $75 million. Twelve ASLI grants are supporting the construction of 982 new continuing care spaces in seven communities.

“Our community came together over 18 months ago with a resolve to keep our seniors and families together, here in Sundre. The announcement of this ASLI grant brings us one step closer to realizing that goal.”

- Mayor Annette Clews, Town of Sundre

Supportive living provides care for seniors and persons with disabilities in a residence-like setting, and includes round-the-clock care, meals and housekeeping.

Since 1999, the Alberta government has invested more than $640 million to fund over 10,000 supportive living spaces across the province.

Our government was elected to keep building Alberta, to live within its means and to fight to open new markets for Alberta’s resources. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
