October 16-17 (9 a.m.)

  • Mr. and Ms. Cahill filed two separate appeals, which the Board will hear consecutively.  In the first appeal, Mr. and Ms. Cahill filed complaints alleging the officers conducted an unlawful search and seizure of property and illegal detention.  Mr. and Ms. Cahill further allege the officers made deceitful statements to the media.  The second appeal deals with the manner in which the Professional Standards Branch handled the investigation of their complaints. 

October 23 (9 a.m.)

  • Cst. Thursby appealed the findings of the Presiding Officer on the allegation of unlawful or unnecessary exercise of authority committed on an individual while he was handcuffed and lying on the ground.

October 24 (9 a.m.)

  • Mr. and Ms. Steele filed complaints alleging the officer committed deceit when providing testimony at a criminal trial.

October 30 (9 a.m.)

  • In 2007, Mr. Fish filed complaints alleging he was pulled to the ground and tasered for refusing to stop taking pictures of a violent arrest during a NHL Stanley Cup playoff celebration.  In 2009, the Board allowed the appeal and remitted the matter back to the Chief to re-investigate Mr. Fish’s complaint.  Mr. Fish alleges the Chief conducted an inadequate re-investigation. 

An independent body established pursuant to the Police Act in 1973, the Alberta Law Enforcement Review Board reviews public complaints about police officer conduct. The board also reviews police officers’ appeals on disciplinary action.
