This release was issued under a previous government.

Making the world a better place is a hallmark of police and peace officers. Sadly, at times officers have given their lives accomplishing this admirable goal.

“The sacrifice of these brave men and women must never be forgotten. They gave their lives keeping our families and communities safe.”

- Jonathan Denis, Minister of Justice and Solicitor General

Albertans are invited to join hundreds of police and peace officers who will gather at the Alberta legislature to remember, recognize, and to pay their respects to the 97 officers who have died in Alberta in the line of duty since 1876.

The memorial ceremony takes place near the band shell at the southeast corner of the legislature grounds. It starts with a parade near the bus terminal on 107 Street just south of 99 Avenue, traveling south on 107 Street at 1 p.m.

This day coincides with the national Police and Peace Officer Memorial Day ceremony held at Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

Our government was elected to keep building Alberta, to live within its means and to fight to open new markets for Alberta’s resources. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.

Editor’s Note

  • Media are invited to the ceremony which takes place on Sunday, September 29, at 1 p.m. on the south grounds of the Alberta legislature.
  • Lieutenant Governor Donald S. Ethell and Jonathan Denis, Minister of Justice and Solicitor General will be among the dignitaries providing remarks.
