This release was issued under a previous government.
From October 2 to 3, education ministers from across the globe will share ideas, insights, and best practices at a meeting hosted by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
The focus of this year’s meeting is on developing skills and employability through education. While in Istanbul, Minister Johnson will also participate in a series of bilateral meetings with counterparts from several countries.
As the incoming Chair of the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC), Minister Johnson will serve as co-head of the Canadian delegation. CMEC is a national organization that functions as Canada’s education voice on the international scene by representing the country’s diverse provincial and territorial education systems.
“This is a valuable opportunity to create new international linkages and relationships as we continue to build Alberta and realize the vision of Inspiring Education. I’m looking forward to sharing insights and exploring ways to continue preparing our kids for their future world by ensuring they have the skills and competencies needed to thrive in a knowledge-based economy.”
Travel and related costs for Minister Johnson will be covered directly by CMEC and the OECD. The total estimated cost for one staff accompanying Minister Johnson, including airfare, transportation and accommodation, is $8,500.
Our government was elected to keep building Alberta, to live within its means and to fight to open new markets for Alberta’s resources. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
