Homegrown talent takes centre stage at kick-off celebrations for Alberta Culture Days. The Government of Alberta is proud to partner with local businesses and artists to host kick-off events in Edmonton and Calgary on Friday, September 27.

The fun, free and festive Edmonton block party will take place from

4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 104th Street and Jasper Avenue. Music performances include:

  • The Dudes
  • Scenic Route to Alaska
  • Mitchmatic
  • The Soulicitors
  • DJ Sweetz

There will be an Alley of Light project, an artisan market, food trucks and children’s activities.

Calgary will kick-off its celebrations at Olympic Plaza from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. with performances by:

  • Cadence Weapon
  • Makeshift Innocence
  • Bitterweek Draw
  • Sidney York

These two events will mark the start of Culture Days 2013. The family friendly fun continues throughout the weekend.  Albertans will have an opportunity to explore provincially owned and operated museums and heritage sites during Culture Days free of charge at these locations:

  • Frank Slide Interpretive Centre
  • Royal Alberta Museum
  • Government House
  • Oil Sands Discovery Centre
  • Provincial Archives of Alberta
  • Reynolds-Alberta Museum
  • Rutherford House
  • Remington Carriage Museum
  • Royal Tyrrell Museum
  • Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump
  • Lougheed House
