This release was issued under a previous government.

The projects are part of Premier Redford’s Building Alberta plan and promised investment in education infrastructure. These new schools are expected to provide up to 13,400 spaces.

“By investing in these school projects today, rather than years from now, we are continuing to build Alberta and meet the needs of our growing province. Our students and parents will benefit from having these advanced learning facilities as the centre of their communities."

- Wayne Drysdale, Minister of Infrastructure

A Request for Qualifications has been issued to identify and shortlist three proponents to enter into the Request for Proposal (RFP) phase of the procurement process. The RFP is expected to be issued in the fall of 2013 with an award to a design-build-finance-maintenance consortium in the summer of 2014.

“As a parent, I know education is one of the best investments we can make for our province and our communities. Having these new schools in place, through this partnership approach, will ensure our kids have the supports they need to learn, succeed and ultimately to keep building Alberta.”

- Jeff Johnson, Minister of Education

The remainder of the schools announced in May 2013 will be built using traditional methods:

  • 8 through 4 design-build bundles
  • 2 modernizations through individual design-bid-build projects.

Government is investing $503 million over three years to support the delivery of new school projects within Alberta’s high-growth communities.

New school projects in this first bundle are expected to be completed in 2016.

Our government was elected to keep building Alberta, to live within its means and to fight to open new markets for Alberta’s resources. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
