This release was issued under a previous government.

Until recently, the lands alongside the highway were primarily rural and didn’t warrant a speed reduction. Traffic has increased with recent development, creating a more urban setting.

The Town of Sylvan Lake, Red Deer County and RCMP provided input to Alberta Transportation on the speed reduction plan.

Motorists will notice new speed limit signs going up Monday, March 25, 2013, with enforcement of the new speed limit commencing the following day. Installation of the signs is subject to change depending on weather or other circumstances.

As signs are being installed, motorists are asked to adhere to the posted speed limits, obey all traffic signs and flag persons. Fines for speeding are doubled in construction zones when workers are present.
