This release was issued under a previous government.

The northbound to eastbound ramp off Deerfoot Trail to Highway 22X will be closed for up to an hour while the girder is in transit. Eastbound traffic on Highway 22X will then be held for 15-minute intervals by traffic personnel. Westbound traffic will follow transport vehicles.

This girder transport is on a slightly different route than delivery of other girders taking place nightly between 2- 5 a.m. until Saturday, February 23. These previously announced deliveries will be westbound on Highway 22X to the median east of McKenzie Lake Boulevard/Cranston Boulevard SE, causing temporary delays at 15 minute intervals. In this case, Deerfoot Trail traffic will not be impacted. Dates are subject to change.

The work is being done in off-peak hours to minimize impacts to motorists and ensure the safety of workers. Motorists should use caution in this area and obey all signs, message boards, and flag people. Fines for speeding are doubled in construction zones when workers are present.

The Alberta government signed a 33-year agreement with Chinook Roads Partnership to design, build, operate and partially finance the southeast leg of the Stoney Trail ring road from its junction with 17 Avenue SE, south along the City of Calgary’s eastern limit, then west along Highway 22X to east of the Macleod Trail interchange. The new portion of the ring road will be open to traffic by the fall of 2013.
