This release was issued under a previous government.

From 2 a.m. until 5 a.m. next Tuesday to Saturday, the immense steel bridge supports will be trucked westbound on Highway 22X to the median east of McKenzie Lake Boulevard/Cranston Boulevard SE, causing temporary delays at 15 minute intervals. Deerfoot Trail traffic will not be impacted.

The trucks carrying the girders, which will support the new Stoney Trail bridge at Deerfoot Trail, will turn around in the median and reposition in the eastbound lane, causing traffic in both directions to be stopped for approximately 10 minutes.

The girders will then be transported eastbound on Highway 22X and unloaded for the planned bridge construction work. Eastbound traffic will experience 15 minute interval delays until the delivery is complete.

The work is taking place at night to reduce the impact on the travelling public and ensure the safety of workers.

Motorists should use caution in this area and obey all message boards and flag people. Fines for speeding are doubled in construction zones when workers are present.

Please note the date is subject to change.

The Alberta government signed a 33-year agreement with Chinook Roads Partnership to design, build, operate and partially finance the southeast leg of the Stoney Trail ring road from its junction with 17 Avenue SE, south along the City of Calgary’s eastern limit, then west along Highway 22X to east of the Macleod Trail interchange. The new portion of the ring road will be open to traffic by the fall of 2013.
