>Work begins Jan. 2 on the Salteaux River bridge, located approximately 40 kilometres southeast of Slave Lake, before crews move to the Otauwau River bridge, located approximately 30 kilometres southeast of Slave Lake. Work on both bridges is expected to be completed by March 18, weather permitting.

Motorists can expect short-term, minor disruptions during the girder painting. Traffic will be reduced to single-lane alternating during daylight hours for two days prior and two days after the girder painting is completed on each bridge. Alternating single-lane traffic allows crews to safely unload and erect scaffolding beneath the bridges.

Girder painting is preventative maintenance that reduces corrosion from road salting and weather. Painting prevents the girders from rusting and deteriorating, which extends the life of the bridge structure. This preventative maintenance is part of Alberta Transportation’s bridge management system, which includes regular inspections, spot inspections, and repairs or maintenance when required to ensure the structural safety of provincial highway bridges.

Motorists are advised to use caution in the area and obey all signs, signals, and flag people. Motorists are reminded that fines for speeding are doubled through construction zones when workers are present.
