This release was issued under a previous government.

For one night, starting at 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 14, eastbound 16th Avenue lanes will be closed at Deerfoot Trail. Traffic will be rerouted down the ramp onto Deerfoot Trail southbound, safely bypassing the work area. The detour route will send traffic to Memorial Drive. From there, motorists can continue eastbound or exit to Deerfoot northbound to return to 16th Avenue to continue eastbound.

The detour will be in effect until 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15. Following that, the contractor will close one lane at a time to complete the final details on this project. All lanes are expected to be open to traffic by early next week.

In addition, the left and middle lane of Deerfoot Trail northbound under 16th Avenue will also be closed overnight on Friday, Sept. 14 starting at 10 p.m. Both lanes should reopen to traffic by 7 a.m. on Saturday, Sept 15. These lane closures protect the travelling public from potential falling debris from the activities on the bridge deck above.

Emergency vehicles arriving onsite with lights flashing will be able to cross the bridge by escort at a reduced speed, as opposed to following the detour.

Motorists should use caution in the area and obey all signs, message boards and flag people when travelling near and in the detour area. Fines for speeding are doubled through construction zones when workers are present.
