Work begins July 30 for second-stage paving of both the northbound and southbound lanes of Anthony Henday Drive between Lessard Road and Whitemud Drive. The paving work will take place between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. daily to minimize impacts to motorists. During those hours, traffic may be reduced to one lane in each direction through the active construction zones. There will also be occasional ramp closures on the Whitemud Drive interchange. Paving is expected to be completed by Sept. 15, weather permitting.

Motorists may wish to use Lessard Road and 178th Street or Guardian Road and 199th Street as alternatives to Anthony Henday Drive during construction. Whitemud Drive interchange users may wish to use the Callingwood Road or 87th Avenue interchanges as alternate routes during construction.

The work will also reduce 87th Avenue and Webber Green Drive to a single lane in each direction at the overpass with Anthony Henday Drive. Motorists may wish to use Whitemud Drive and Lewis Estates Boulevard as an alternate route.

Motorists should use caution in this area and obey all signs, message boards, and flag people. Fines for speeding are doubled in construction zones when workers are present.

New Alberta highways are paved in two stages. The initial stage paving allows motorists to use the road for a period of time to help determine any weaknesses or trouble spots, which can be corrected by the second stage pavement. Staged paving also better protects the subsurface infrastructure and increases the time before repaving is needed.
