Median work on Deerfoot Trail temporarily restricts motorists in Calgary

Calgary...
Motorists are advised that intermittent temporary nighttime closures and delays on southbound and northbound Deerfoot Trail near the Highway 22X interchange will begin next week. The closures accommodate median work for the Deerfoot Trail-Stoney Trail SE bridge structure.

Deerfoot Trail median work will require northbound and southbound Deerfoot Trail to be reduced to one lane in each direction around the worksite. During the median construction, southbound lanes on Deerfoot Trail SE will be temporarily closed just north of Highway 22X. Motorists requiring access to southbound Deerfoot Trail will be detoured onto the southbound Deerfoot Trail off ramp, cross over Highway 22X, and use the off ramp from eastbound Highway 22X to southbound Deerfoot Trail. A single left-lane closure is also required on northbound Deerfoot Trail and traffic will be reduced to one lane south of Highway 22X.

Eastbound and westbound Highway 22X will also be restricted to one lane in each direction to accommodate the Deerfoot Trail detour.

Nighttime lane closures on southbound Deerfoot Trail SE are scheduled from 10 p.m.-6 a.m. July 16-21. Please note dates are subject to change.

Motorists should use caution in this area and obey all signs, message boards, and flag people. Fines for speeding are doubled in construction zones when workers are present.

The Alberta government signed a 33-year agreement with Chinook Roads Partnership to design, build, operate and partially finance the southeast leg of the Stoney Trail ring road from its junction with 17th Avenue SE, south along the City of Calgary’s eastern limit, then west along Highway 22X to east of the Macleod Trail interchange. The new road will be fully open to traffic by the fall of 2013.
