This release was issued under a previous government.

The new $25-million interchange was jointly funded by the provincial and federal governments. Construction started in August 2010.

The interchange replaces the last signalized, at-grade intersection on Anthony Henday Drive, meaning motorists now have access to 69 kilometres of free-flow traffic on the ring road. The new construction consists of a bridge over the freeway, high-speed ramps, and the realignment of Cameron Heights Drive and 184th Street.

The amount of materials used on these projects includes: 5,100 cubic metres of concrete; 347 tonnes of reinforcing steel; 1,005 tonnes of structural steel; 580,000 cubic metres of excavation and 44,500 tonnes of asphalt.

Anthony Henday Drive is an important part of the North-South Trade Corridor, which stretches from the Alberta-B.C. border west of Grande Prairie to the Alberta-Montana Border at Coutts. This project further enhances the Corridor by marking another step towards 800 kilometres of free flow traffic from Nanton to Grande Prairie.

Clean-up will continue in the area. Motorists should use caution in construction areas and obey all signs and message boards. Motorists are reminded that fines for speeding are doubled through construction zones when workers are present.
