Purpose: To update the laws and principles dealing with what happens to an Albertan’s property when they have passed away. This review will help to ensure that these legal principles come in line with Alberta society as it operates today.

Family support, possession of the family home, intestate succession, matrimonial property and the impact of marriage or an adult interdependent partnership on a will are the main topics that will be discussed during the first phase of the review. This phase of the review will not include the Wills Act and Administration of Estates.
