ERCB temporarily suspends issuing sour licences pending response to court of appeal decision
Calgary... The Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) will continue to accept and process sour oil and gas well, pipeline and other facility applications, but will not issue licences for these applications until it develops a response to an October 28, 2009 Alberta Court of Appeal ruling in the matter of Kelly et al v. ERCB and Grizzly Resources Ltd.
The ERCB recognizes the importance of this matter and is reviewing the Court’s decision on a priority basis to determine its impact on the sour oil and gas applications process. The ERCB will announce how it plans to proceed once this review is complete.
Until that determination is made, the ERCB will not issue any licences for sour wells, facilities and pipelines. Currently, 69 applications have been affected.
