Nominations welcome for Alberta's highest honour
Edmonton... The Alberta Order of Excellence Council is now accepting public nominations for the highest honour the province has to offer its citizens. Up to 10 Alberta community leaders will be selected this year for investiture into the Alberta Order of Excellence (AOE).
“The AOE medal is a way to recognize outstanding people who have achieved great things in the service of their fellow Albertans and all Canadians.  It’s also a way to ensure that future generations are able to learn from and take pride in their stories,” said the Honourable Norman L. Kwong, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta and Chancellor of the Order.
Albertans will have until February 15, 2009 to submit a nomination for consideration this year. The formal investiture ceremony will take place in October.
“AOE members come from every corner of the province. They represent all walks of life and a wide range of professions,” said Dr. Robert Westbury, Chair of the Order of Excellence Council. “The one thing they all share is a singular focus on using the best of their abilities to make a powerful and lasting difference in the lives of others. The Council always looks forward to hearing about extraordinary Albertans and their accomplishments.”
Information about the Order, nomination guidelines, nomination forms and biographies of Alberta Order of Excellence members are available online at www.lieutenantgovernor.ab.ca/aoe.
Nominations received after February 15, 2009, and nominations not selected in 2009, may be held and considered for future membership in the Order. Nominees must be Canadian citizens currently residing in Alberta and, if selected, must be able to attend the investiture ceremony. People cannot nominate themselves, their partner or a member of their immediate family.
