Gleniffer Lake temporarily closed for public use

Edmonton ...
The Alberta government is urging the public to stay off Gleniffer Lake, including the Red Deer River south of Sundre, this weekend while clean up efforts continue to contain and remove oil spilled from a nearby pipeline June 15.

There has been a cooperative effort by Alberta Environment and other government agencies to mitigate the effects of the spill and any extra activity on the lake may hinder remediation efforts.

Containment booms will remain on the lake over the weekend to prevent the spread of the spill while surface water and shoreline recovery efforts continue. These booms may be difficult for boats to see on the water and contact with them could seriously affect containment efforts.

Anyone with questions or concerns about lake use or environmental impacts are urged to contact Pembina Pipelines Community Relations at 1-888-428-3222 or email to community@pembina.com or contact Alberta Environment at 310-4455.
