Province to capture feedback on royalty recommendations
Government also hearing from industry as part of thorough analysis
Edmonton...
To capture all the feedback on the royalty review recommendations, the Alberta government has set up a special website for Albertans to send in their comments.

“The decision on the royalty report will affect Alberta and our energy sector for decades to come,” said Premier Ed Stelmach. “While the formal consultation is over, we have not stopped listening. We want to make sure that people who have comments send them to the right place so we can consider this input as part of the review process.”

Albertans interested in sharing their views can do so at www.alberta.ca or by calling 427-0265. Outside the Edmonton calling area, Albertans can dial toll-free 310-0000, followed by 780-427-0265.

The province will also keep the communication channels open with industry as part of the review process. Deputy Premier and Minister of Justice Ron Stevens will be the lead minister liaising with the energy industry. The purpose of this dialogue will be to ensure there is a shared understanding and clarity on the panel’s recommendations and government’s review process.

Energy Minister Mel Knight will lead the technical analysis of the report, which will be considered along with public and industry feedback, when the Alberta government completes its response to the report in October.

“We understand the importance of stability and certainty for industry, and the importance of maintaining competitive fiscal and regulatory regimes,” said Premier Stelmach. “We also understand that Albertans expect to receive long-term benefits from Alberta’s energy resources. Our response will balance these perspectives.”

The independent royalty review was done by a six-person panel, chaired by Bill Hunter, former president of Al-Pac. The panel hosted a series of public meetings and accepted over 300 submissions from Alberta residents, municipal leaders, and stakeholders in the oil and gas industry.

The complete report and recommendations are available on the Government of Alberta website at www.alberta.ca.
