Ministerial Task Force on Security
The Ministerial Task Force on Security was created by the provincial government to ensure the safety of Albertans and the preparedness of the province.
Steps taken under the task force include:
- Refocusing the Alberta Emergency Preparedness Partnership and preparing a counter-terrorism and crisis management plan.
- Providing a grant of $450,000 to cities for equipment that detects chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats.
- Changing registry procedures to prevent the creation of fraudulent identification such as driver's licences and birth certificates.
- Improving links with the RCMP, the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service (CSIS), other provinces, and industry.
- Reviewing security at key energy and utility sites in concert with oil, gas, and utility industry officials.
- Ensuring all government departments have security and emergency plans in place.
- Amending several pieces of legislation to enhance Alberta's legal and strategic mechanisms to address any threat or crisis the province may face.
- Establishing a security and information management unit that liaises with police, the private sector and all levels of government to monitor intelligence that affects Alberta. Albertans will be immediately notified if they are at risk and action is required.
