National 4-H Month
A Month Worth Celebrating - The 4-H program originated for the purposes of improving agriculture and enriching rural life. It now reaches young people in rural areas, small towns and suburbs alike, offering members the chance to make life-long friends, participate in a wide variety of exciting projects, travel national and internationally, and develop leadership skills that will serve them for a lifetime. Veterans' Week -- November 5 -- 11
From November 5 -11, schools across Alberta will be honouring Veterans' Week and Remembrance Day with school assemblies, poetry competitions, plays, art displays and guest speakers. Alberta Education has posted a number of resources on its website to help encourage school-based activities to honour the ordinary men and women who did extraordinary things to protect our freedom and build a safer world in which to live. Canada Career Week -- November 2-7
Albertans can learn how education and training link with the world of work during this year’s Canada Career Week, November 2 -7. The provincial theme of the week is People Pursuing Potential. Canada Career Week is a time to help people make decisions about their working lives. Job and career seekers can find out about labour market trends, explore their occupational interests, attend career fairs and learn more about the value of education and training. The Career Information Hotline is also a valuable resource to Albertans who are looking for a career, or advice on changing careers. Call 1-800-661-3753 from anywhere in Alberta. National Bullying Awareness Week -- November 15 -- 21
Bullying is not a normal part of growing up. It has very serious consequences, often preventing children and youth from reaching their full potential. This year National Bullying Awareness Week runs from November 15 to 21 and Albertans are encouraged to share the responsibility of helping to prevent bullying, and to change behaviour that may cause hurt to others.  Events are being held in communities across the province to promote bullying prevention, including presentations for child care providers and educators, and bullying awareness discussions at community events. Remembrance service - Legislature rotunda, Tuesday, November 3 at 11 a.m.
Hosted by the Hon. Ken Kowalski, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, the annual remembrance service will honour the many Canadians who lost their lives for our country. The service includes participation by members of the Canadian Forces, the Royal Canadian Legion, and the Salvation Army. Wreaths will be laid on behalf of the Members of the Legislative Assembly, the youth of Alberta, the Corps of Commissionaires and others. In attendance will be the Hon. Ed Stelmach, Premier; Dr. David Swann, Leader of the Official Opposition; Mr. Brian Mason, leader of the third party and students from école St. Angela, St. Timothy School and Edmonton Christian School Northeast Campus.

Rutherford House remembers Canadian heroes -- November 8
Visit Rutherford House Provincial Historic Site on November 8 from noon to 4 p.m. to pay respects to the sacrifices and hard work of Canadian heroes on both the battle field and the home front. Visitors can sample economical wartime cuisine and take a peek inside a lovingly prepared soldier care package. Browse First World War displays while exploring the beautiful home of Alberta’s first Premier, Alexander Cameron Rutherford. Indulge your taste buds at the Arbour Restaurant, open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday to Sunday. What's on at the Royal Alberta Museum in Edmonton?

Diamonds: Mined, Refined and Designed -- October 31 - January 17, 2010
The Royal Alberta Museum is proud to host Diamonds: Mined, Refined and Designed, a dazzling travelling exhibition that unearths the science behind the world’s hardest natural substance. Originally produced by Science North of Sudbury, Ontario, Diamonds is open at the museum from October 31, 2009 to January 17, 2010. Diamonds is an interactive, bilingual (English/French) exhibit that explores fascinating aspects of these rare, highly sought after jewels. Visitors will learn about the forces that forged these gems billions of years ago, and discover the complex processes involved in finding, extracting and cutting diamonds.

Much More Munsch -- September 26 - April 6, 2010
The Royal Alberta Museum is hosting Much More Munsch, an interactive exhibition promoting creativity and a love of reading based on the inspirational works of celebrated Canadian author, Robert Munsch. The whimsical travelling exhibition from the Manitoba Children's Museum and the London Regional Children's Museum takes visitors on a journey through some of Munsch's most beloved children's stories from September 26, 2009, to April 6, 2010. Designed for children aged six to 12, this bilingual exhibition reveals the importance of verbal and visual language.

Arbour Suite -- Until November 22, 2009
Arbour Suite is a photographic exploration of subtle changes that occur in nature. Theodore Shehinski made a series of monumental close-ups of trees, bringing out the rich textures of their sculpture-like forms.
