Political parties are groups of people with similar ideas about how the province should be run. While people who don’t belong to political parties can be elected to the Legislature (they’re called Independents), most MLAs belong to a party.

Alberta currently has nine registered political parties. Information on these parties, including links to their websites, is available on the Elections Alberta website.
