“Today Sikhs here in Alberta, across Canada and around the world mark the 351st anniversary of the birth of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

“As the 10th and last human form of the Gurus of Sikhism, Guru Gobind Singh Ji established and initiated the Sikh order, known as the Khalsa. He also saw the final compilation of the Guru Granth Sahib, Sikhism’s final, sovereign and eternal Guru – a living embodiment of all the guru’s teachings.

“Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s immediate family all made the ultimate sacrifice, so the Sikh faith could prosper and grow. His insistence, three centuries ago, that all are equal before God regardless of gender, background or social position, is echoed today in Alberta, in the expression of many faith communities and in the universal language of human rights.

“I would like to wish Albertans of the Sikh faith a very joyous day of celebration on the anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s birth.”
