Eligibility

Anyone applying must meet the following criteria:

  • Was a resident in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) before the May 2016 fire;
  • Lived in a home that was destroyed or is no longer inhabitable;
  • Has not secured interim housing in RMWB;
  • Must be part of a family with at least two dependents and require three or four bedrooms.

How to apply

Residents wishing to apply must complete a Housing Need Assessment Form with the Wood Buffalo Housing and Development Corporation (WBHDC) and provide the following information:

  • Government-issued photo identification;
  • Two documents verifying pre-fire residence in the region (pay stub, utility bill, property-tax notice, insurance documentation, lease or mortgage);
  • Identification for all household members cited in application (birth certificate, driver’s licence, passport or other government issued ID);
  • Proof of ability to pay all applicable fees including rent, deposit and utilities (confirmation of employment, pay stub or letter from employer stating gross monthly income, or from insurance company.)

Residents in Wood Buffalo

Residents currently staying in the region should visit the demonstration home at the Youth Assessment Centre, 180 Mackenzie Boulevard; from noon to 7:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Staff will be on hand to complete assessments and applications.

Residents outside Wood Buffalo

Residents currently outside the region may apply by contacting the Wood Buffalo Housing and Development Corporation at 780-743-4140. The application form will be sent directly to residents.
