The scheduled rehabilitation work will involve replacement of the deck joints and some other work on the McKnight Boulevard Bridge over Deerfoot Trail.

The project has been designed to cause the shortest duration of traffic disruption. However, some impact on traffic is unavoidable. To minimize this, crews will be working days and nights, seven days a week until the work is complete.

Work will begin on Tuesday, Aug. 2, with lane and speed reductions starting Thursday, Aug. 4 in both directions of McKnight Boulevard until the work is completed at the end of September.

  • Major delays are expected on McKnight Boulevard and Deerfoot Trail in the vicinity of the bridge.
  • Speed will be reduced to 50 km/h on McKnight Boulevard.
  • Two westbound McKnight Boulevard lanes will remain open.
  • One eastbound McKnight Boulevard lane will remain open for traffic approaching the bridge.
  • Lane widths will be narrower.
  • The ramp from Deerfoot Trail southbound to McKnight Boulevard eastbound will join a second eastbound lane on McKnight Boulevard.
  • Large commercial truck access will be restricted on ramps during the work. Affected trucks must find alternate routes.  Ramps will include:
    • Deerfoot Trail travelling southbound, with access to McKnight Boulevard eastbound
    • Deerfoot Trail travelling northbound, with access to McKnight Boulevard westbound
