The Alberta government’s commitment to affordable and accessible public transportation through the Green Transit Incentives Program (GreenTRIP) includes more than $1.2 million for new buses and capital improvements to existing transit infrastructure in Whitecourt. Grant funding will help purchase four new buses and upgrade bus benches, signs, and shelters, as well as purchase security systems for the buses.

“Improving public transportation throughout Alberta is good for families and our economy. This investment will provide the people of Whitecourt access to a more modern, environmentally-friendly option for getting around.”

Brian Mason, Minister of Transportation

“I’m proud of Whitecourt, and I’m excited that our government is investing in our community by improving transportation options for people here. Strengthening our transportation system is an essential part of building our community.”

Oneil Carlier, MLA for Whitecourt-Ste.Anne

“This is great news that will help Whitecourt residents of all ages get around town with greater ease and comfort. Public transit increases mobility in an environmentally sustainable way; it’s a smart choice and one that I am proud to provide the residents of Whitecourt.”

Maryann Chichak, Mayor of Whitecourt

GreenTRIP supports local priorities to provide sustainable public transit alternatives for Alberta communities. Towns and cities can apply for GreenTRIP capital funding to purchase transit vehicles and technologies, build transit terminals and expand transit services that increase ridership, reduce traffic congestion, and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
