The 2015-20 Capital Plan will ensure construction of the schools Alberta families need.

“This investment is confirmation for Alberta families and school jurisdictions that we have kept our promise and they have the capital dollars necessary to keep the construction of their school projects moving forward.”

Jim Prentice, Premier

The Alberta government has also launched a new interactive, mapping website, projects.alberta.ca, showing the progress that continues to be made on building and modernizing schools across the province. Albertans can track the progress of school projects in their communities by clicking on the map.

“The new website enables Albertans to monitor school project status in their neighbourhoods. With spring on its way Albertans are going to see a lot more activity taking place on construction sites throughout the province as more than 100 school projects are expected to open in 2016.”

Manmeet S. Bhullar, Minister of Infrastructure

“Schools are more than just a place of learning; they bind a community together as it continues to grow. Today, we celebrate the importance of quality education in our community and the role that it plays in preparing our children to be thoughtful, responsible and productive members of society.”

Gordon Dirks, Minister of Education

The government’s $2 billion investment in Alberta’s Phase 3 school capital build ensures 56 new schools or additions and 21 modernizations or replacements of existing schools will be completed by 2018. This is part of the Alberta government’s three-phase commitment to complete more than 230 school projects across the province, creating about 78,000 new student spaces.
