Natural Leaders Youth Summit

The inaugural National Natural Leaders Youth Summit, a youth-led initiative of the Child and Nature Alliance of Canada (CNAC), is taking place August 6-8 at the repurposed Canadian Rockies Outdoor Learning Centre (formerly the Bow Valley Diner) in Kananaskis Country.

“Alberta is proud to host this next generation of stewards and champions of our nation’s natural environment. I applaud their enthusiasm, passion and dedication for helping to spread the word to their peers that connecting with nature is important. With so many interests competing for the attention of our youth, it is vital that outdoor pursuits like camping and hiking top their "to do" list.”

Richard Starke, Minister of Tourism, Parks and Recreation

Participants are members of the CNAC’s Natural Leaders Alliance, who recognize the importance of spending time outdoors. Their aim is to reconnect all Canadian youth to nature by empowering a strong network of leaders across the country.

The three-day event will help participants develop their skills and strategies for connecting their peers, communities and young Canadians to nature. The summit will feature a full slate of workshops and information sharing. Participants will also become Alberta Parks' volunteers by taking part in a trail project.

The summit venue is leased by Alberta to Canadian Rockies Public Schools. The school division repurposed the former diner for use as an outdoor education centre. Programming for students begins this year and will align with the vision for Alberta Parks.
