Dr. Roy Wilson Learning Centre in Medicine Hat is one of 12 new P3 schools to open this September
“This proves, yet again, that Alberta’s P3s work. These 12 state-of-the-art new schools were delivered on time and on budget, and at a cost savings of $43 million when compared to using government’s traditional method to build the schools.”
School jurisdictions in eight Alberta communities are busy outfitting the new schools with furniture and equipment, having received the keys to their new facilities on or before June 30, as per the terms of the P3 contract.
These 12 P3 schools are part of a $550-million investment, announced by the Alberta government in May 2011, to complete 35 new schools and modernization projects (22 new schools and 13 modernizations) in some of Alberta’s fastest-growing communities. The majority of the school projects outside the P3 bundle are complete or on track to be completed and ready for students beginning this fall.

P3s Provide Value for Money
The Government of Alberta has demonstrated value for money using P3s to deliver new schools. Using a P3 delivery model for three bundles, totaling 40 new schools, has saved Alberta taxpayers more than $245 million.
