This release was issued under a previous government.

The teachers and principals were nominated by students, parents, colleagues and communities for demonstrating exceptional leadership, innovation, creativity, and effective teaching practices.

“The dedication of our teachers and principals has allowed Alberta’s students to be among the best in the world.  Our 2014 Excellence in Teaching Award recipients use their talent and expertise to bring Inspiring Education to life, and we thank them for giving students their best each and every day.”

Jeff Johnson, Minister of Education

Each award recipient will be presented with a certificate and pin, and have access to $4,000 for professional development.  They join the more than 500 award-winning educators who have been recognized through the Excellence in Teaching Awards program over the past 26 years.

Alberta Education will present the Excellence in Teaching Awards on May 24 in Calgary with the support of the Alberta School Boards’ Association, the Alberta School Councils’ Association, the Alberta Teachers’ Association, the Association of Alberta Deans of Education, the College of Alberta School Superintendents, and the Edmonton Journal.

Under the Building Alberta Plan, our government is investing in families and communities, living within our means, and opening new markets for Alberta's resources to ensure we're able to fund the services Albertans told us matter most to them. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
