Alberta Energy Rebate

Starting July 1, eligible Albertans can get $100 to help with the costs of everyday essentials.

Alberta.ca Accounts issue resolved

We are aware that some Albertans are experiencing delays when applying for the Energy Rebate. The performance issue affecting Alberta.ca Accounts sign-ins has been resolved.

We recognize this step has been a source of frustration for some applicants, and we are reviewing the application process to see where it can be improved.

Bank verification through Interac is available to any Canadian bank that chooses to participate. Not all banks currently offer this service to their customers; anyone whose bank does not participate can use document verification instead.

Applications will be accepted until September 30, 2026, so Albertans experiencing delays are not at risk of missing the deadline and can return to complete their application at a later time.

Overview

We’re introducing a new one-time Alberta Energy Rebate to help with the cost of groceries, fuel and other everyday essentials. Starting July 1, eligible Albertans can apply to get $100 through our secure online portal.

The rebate will replace the Fuel Tax Relief Program that would have taken effect on July 1. The rebate provides 50% more in savings per person than the average Albertan would have saved on fuel taxes over 3 months, while offering more choice and flexibility on how to spend it.

Applications will be accepted from July 1, 2026, to September 30, 2026.

Eligibility

To be eligible:

  • you must be 18 years of age or older as of July 1, 2026
  • you must be an Alberta resident
  • you must have filed your 2025 tax return
  • your household total income must be $225,000 or less

Albertans receiving the Alberta Seniors Benefit and those enrolled in Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) – including AISH clients transitioned to the Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP) – and Income Support will be automatically enrolled to receive their rebate. No application is required.

  • Definition of household

For the purposes of the Alberta Energy Rebate eligibility, household is defined as a single individual or 2 individuals who are married or in a common-law relationship.

Albertans 18 and over living at the same address, but who are not married or common-law, would be considered separate households. This includes:

    • roommates
    • children over the age of 18
    • other adult family members living in the same home

Each adult will need to apply separately to receive a payment.

  • Household income calculation

Household income is calculated based on the amounts reported on your, and if applicable, your spouse or common-law partner’s 2025 tax return with the Canada Revenue Agency.

The household income measure is the sum of the following calculation for both the individual and their spouse or common-law partner, if applicable:

    • Total income (line 15000), minus:
      • split pension amounts (line 21000)
      • tuition expenses (line 32000)
      • medical expenses for self, spouse/common-law partner or dependent children under the age of 18 (line 33099)
      • medical expenses for other dependents (line 33199)
