This release was issued under a previous government.

During the mission, Premier Notley will join her federal, provincial and territorial counterparts as part of the Canadian delegation; meet with key non-government organizations and other international decision-makers; and highlight commitments outlined in Alberta’s new Climate Leadership Plan.

“Alberta’s continued economic growth and access to new markets goes hand-in-hand with improving our international reputation by taking meaningful action on climate change. This is why I will be bringing our new Climate Leadership Plan forward at COP21. This is an important opportunity to show the international community exactly how Alberta is doing its part.”

Premier Rachel Notley

Shannon Phillips, Minister of Environment and Parks, will attend the second week of COP21 from December 4 to 10 where she will participate in meetings and events with representatives from subnational governments and businesses.

“Our new strategy sets out a clear plan to transition from coal to renewable electricity sources, puts a price on carbon and sets emissions limits for the oil sands. I will highlight these actions in my meetings with international leaders, and I look forward to hearing their perspective on Alberta’s plan.”

Shannon Phillips, Minister of Environment and Parks

The estimated international mission cost for the Premier, Minister Phillips, four political staff, four public servants and three protection unit members is approximately $80,000. This estimate also includes carbon offsets that were purchased for each member of the delegation.
